are you ever just reading a book and you come across word that you don’t know how to pronounce so you just go afkjhjdsfsjkdhs in your head

when it’s someone’s name and you have to keep doing that for the rest of the book

don’t you hate it when you’re reading a chapter and then it’s coming to its climax and omg what’s gonna happen, then woops, your eyes dart to the last line and you spoil yourself and hate yourself for it

Or not really gray. A pale, in-between color. It reminds me of waiting for something good to happen.

Genre: YA, dystopian, romance

Rating: 4 stars

Spoilers in this review, read at your own risk!

P.S - there is swearing in this review. I’m sorry … it needed to be said.

I don’t really know how to feel about this book, and I’ll tell you why. The ending …. was really it an ending? When I finished it I was like “there is no fucking way it just ends like this. There’s just no way.” But it turns out that the last words of the trilogy just happens to be “take down the walls.” Ummm … WHAT THE HELL. I feel like Lauren Oliver, as brilliant as a writer she may be, ended it but didn’t end it. I felt that nothing was resolved. We don’t know what the fuck happened to Hana after she walked away from the house and Fred, we don’t know if Lena chooses Alex or Julian (though I’m going to guess it’s Alex), and we don’t know if the resistance won the damn war or not. I mean, it’s implied that the resistance finally earned some power and may possibly overturn the government and the corrupted society, but we don’t know for sure. I just … I mean … what!?

Let’s talk a little about Alex. In the first book, I liked him but I didn’t love him. I didn’t feel like I could connect with him. By Pandemonium I loved Julian, like, forget about Alex. And then we get to the Requiem and now I don’t even know. As much as I understood why Lena felt so conflicted, because she didn’t get the closure she needed from Alex, I felt that Julian was just too understanding and patient. Bitch, if the guy I loved couldn’t fully commit to me because his ex-girl decided to not die back in Portland and come back into his life, I’d be freaking the fuck out. I’d be fighting for him! Julian didn’t really do that, he was just patient with her … just .. let’s be honest right now. And Alex … okay. halfway through this book I was kind of rooting for him. But did he fight for Lena? No, he didn’t. Instead, he’s off with Coral doing God knows what and being a little bitch about Lena. Just, NO! He gave her up in the end of Delirium in hopes that she would survive and be happy. And then when he sees that Lena fell in love again, he gets pissed. BITCH, how else was she supposed to move on? She thought Alex was dead and Julian helped her forget. If Alex understood this and wasn’t such an asshole about it, maybe things would have turned out differently, but no.

Someone just had to fight for Lena at some point because honestly near the end I didn’t care who she chose as long as she chose someone. But she didn’t … UGH.

Another thing - I didn’t really like Hana’s POV. I didn’t care for her, and when I learned that she was the one who turned Alex and Lena in, I just wanted to kill her. She earned back my trust when she began helping Grace and started to doubt Fred and all he stood up for, but still. I have a big issue with different POV’s because I feel that if an author is going to be doing more than one POV in a book, he/she should just be writing in third person. But yeah, I didn’t totally hate Hana’s POV. It was interesting to see how things were going back in Portland in the eyes of a cured (even though she was kind of breaking through it).

I didn’t even realize it was the end of the book until I flipped the page and saw that it was blank. I was literally staring at that blank page with my mouth open in shock. Nothing was resolved! I know they say “keep the readers wondering …” but not to this extent. Not to the point where it is perfectly acceptable to just put out another book to give us a proper ending. It literally sounded like the opening for another book. For me, this didn’t qualify as an ending, and that is why I docked a star from my rating.

Until the end of this book, I was going to give this book 5 stars. It was my favorite out of all the books until the end, okay? The buildup was tasteful and it really pulled you in. I loved that Lena and her mom reconnected. I loved how Lena became a badass. I connected with Lena in this book more so than the first two, and I was anxious to see how everything would play out … too bad I’ll never know since the ending just happened out of fucking nowhere.

THANK JESUS CHRIST FOR THE TELEVISION SERIES! If we didn’t have a TV show I don’t think I would ever be satisfied with the way things turned out. I just need to know what will happen, even if it is TV and it’s different. ALL I EVER WANTED WAS AN ENDING, LAUREN OLIVER. ALL I NEEDED WAS CLOSURE. UGGGGHHH. You just can’t do that! I read this entire series to see who wins the war and who Lena chooses and what will happen to her family and her friends and I never even found out. The only thing I know for sure is that Raven died. Omg. That doesn’t count.

If you want to discuss with me, feel free to reply to this post or hit me up on my ask!

“With the cure, relationships are all the same, and rules and expectations are defined. Without the cure, relationships must be reinvented every day, languages constantly decoded and deciphered. Freedom is exhausting.”

Im so glad other people feel this way too!  That ending was pretty much the shittiest thing a writer could do to their readers and fans.  Thanks for being a loyal supporter of my books!  Here’s a crap ending for you!  I tried so hard with this book haha not!

Me when I finished reading Requiem by Lauren Oliver:

xpaintedxsmilesx:

imageThe book left about everything unanswered. It didn’t really explain who Lena ended up with or if the resistance won. It wouldn’t even tell us what happened with Hanna. This book is kind of disappointing because of the ending that left us with many questions. Lauren Oliver is an amazing writer, but there needed to be some kind of conclusion.

my thoughts exactly!
